Sikh prisoner in Indian jail brutally tortured, terrorist written on the back with a hot stick

CHANDIGARH: A Sikh prisoner in the Indian state of Punjab was brutally tortured by the authorities and a terrorist was written on his back with a hot stick.

According to Indian media reports, Jait Singh, a 28-year-old prisoner arrested in a drug case in Barnala district of Punjab, filed a written application in the court, in which he revealed the inhuman and degrading treatment meted out to him.

Jait Singh, 28, revealed in his plea that the jail superintendent had subjected him to inhumane torture while in custody and had written “terrorist” on his back with a hot stick.

In a petition filed in the court, Karamjit Singh revealed that “other inmates in the jail are also subjected to extreme torture”. “The condition of the inmates in the jail is very pitiable. The inmates who have been diagnosed with diseases like AIDS and hepatitis are not kept in separate wards and I have never treated the inmates badly,” he said in his affidavit. When I tried to raise the issue, the prison superintendent severely tortured me.

According to the report, the police are currently in jail in the Kurram Jeet drug case, against which the case is pending in the court.

Jail Superintendent Balbir Singh, on the other hand, denied the allegations, saying that Karamjit Singh was a habitual criminal and used to tell fabricated stories. And now they are making this accusation because he is angry with us, we keep searching the barracks and last time we found a mobile phone in his barracks, he has once escaped from police custody.
