Mumbai Police has issued a summons to Siddhant Kapoor, actor-director and brother of actress Shraddha Kapoor. This action is part of a high-profile drug case that recently also involved social media influencer Orhan Awatramani, known as Orry.
Kapoor has been called for questioning by the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC). He is directed to record his statement on November 25.
The ongoing investigation is linked to a significant Mephedrone seizure in Maharashtra. Authorities confiscated drugs valued at approximately $30.2 million USD.
Orhan Awatramani (Orry) was also summoned in connection with this case. He was initially asked to appear on Thursday but requested additional time. Orry is now expected to face questioning on November 26.
Names of prominent individuals, including Kapoor and Orry, reportedly emerged during the interrogation of the main accused. Mohammed Salim, also known as Suhail Sheikh or ‘Lavish,’ made several claims to officials.
Sheikh alleged that figures from the film industry, fashion world, and even some political personalities attended rave parties he organized. He also mentioned a relative of notorious gangster Dawood Ibrahim.
Siddhant Kapoor has had previous encounters with drug-related controversies. In 2022, he was detained in Bengaluru following allegations of drug consumption at a rave party.
Suhail Sheikh, the primary suspect, was brought back to India from Dubai last month. He was initially arrested in Maharashtra’s Sangli district in connection with the $30.2 million Mephedrone recovery. Later, the ANC’s Ghatkopar unit took him into custody.
Investigators are working to identify all influential people connected to this drug network. They are also examining how these rave parties were funded and managed. The involvement of two known entertainment personalities has brought renewed attention to the case.
Police anticipate that more high-profile individuals may be questioned as the investigation progresses. The statements from Kapoor and Orry are expected to provide new insights and potentially shape the direction of the case. All eyes are on their scheduled appearances on November 25 and 26.
