Actress Shruti Haasan recently shared some interesting thoughts about her work in the film industry. She opened up about her time in both Bollywood and South Indian cinema. She believes there’s a big difference in how stars carry themselves in each place. According to Shruti, actors in the South are generally more humble and spiritual.
She highlighted the South film industry’s focus on politeness and devotion. This isn’t just about personal beliefs. It shapes the culture on film sets too. Shruti explained that South Indian actors stay grounded. They feel it helps them keep “Saraswati’s blessing,” referring to the goddess of art and knowledge.
Small traditions are common on sets in the South. For example, a coconut might be placed in the morning. Sometimes, a picture of a deity is kept on set. These practices show a deep respect for their craft. Both actors and staff pay close attention to their behavior. Rules are followed, creating a disciplined environment.
A Different Kind of Glamour
Shruti added that people in the South appreciate simplicity. You might see very successful people there wearing simple clothes. They might even drive older cars, despite having a lot of money. She sees artists as simply “mediums for art.” She feels a great film, a good story, or a moving song is the real message. Our job as artists is just to deliver that art to people. Her background in music helped her learn this. Working with people over many years also taught her to stay humble. It helped her to always work with full dedication.
