Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was on fire, smashing 87 runs to lead his team to a thrilling 5-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier. But what caught everyone’s attention was Iyer’s heated exchange with teammate Shashank Singh after the match.
The two players had a brief, tense conversation, with Iyer clearly upset about something. It seemed like he was angry about Shashank’s slow running between wickets during the game. Shashank had been dismissed for just 2 runs in the 17th over, leaving Punjab needing 35 runs from 21 balls.
Iyer’s frustration was palpable, and he let Shashank know about it. The video shows Iyer saying something to Shashank, who walks away without shaking hands.
What happened during the game?
Punjab Kings were chasing a target of 204 runs set by Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. They achieved the target in 19 overs, making it to the IPL final for the second time in their history. Iyer became the first captain to lead three different teams to the final.
Shashank Singh had a decent season, scoring 289 runs in 13 innings with a strike rate of 145.95, including two half-centuries.
Next up: The big final
Punjab Kings will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the title clash on June 3. Both teams are looking to win their first IPL trophy. They have played each other three times this season, with RCB winning two and Punjab winning one. In all three matches, the team chasing the target emerged victorious.
