Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer was livid with the umpire during their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The incident happened in the fifth over of Hyderabad’s batting. Glenn Maxwell was bowling, and on the second ball, Travis Head’s shot went to the keeper. The keeper and Maxwell appealed, and the umpire signaled for a DRS review without checking with Iyer. Iyer was furious, storming towards the umpire and shouting, “Ask me first.”
A Lesson in Protocol
The rules state that the captain decides whether to take a DRS review. The umpire should only signal for a review after the captain’s decision. In this case, it seems the umpire didn’t follow protocol. Iyer eventually decided to take the review, but Head was given not out.
Travis Head scored 66 off 37 balls, including 3 sixes and 9 fours. Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma smashed 141 runs, the highest individual score by an Indian player in the IPL.
