Arrests and Investigation in Maldonado

A recent incident in Maldonado has led to the arrest of two men, aged 20 and 44, by the Police. The arrests took place in the early hours of Tuesday at kilometer 6 of Route 37, near the Pan de Azúcar Hill wildlife reserve.

Circumstances of the Arrest

The two men were part of a group of three individuals traveling in a Nissan March car. The vehicle was stopped by police due to suspicious behavior. When officials attempted to search the vehicle, the occupants tried to escape, leading to a confrontation.

Confrontation and Aftermath

During the confrontation, one of the individuals, who was armed, fired three shots at the officers. The police also fired their weapons, but fortunately, no one was injured. The 20-year-old, who has no prior criminal record, was initially arrested but later released by the Prosecutor’s Office. The 44-year-old man, who has a criminal record, remains in custody.

Ongoing Investigation

The third individual involved in the incident managed to escape and is currently being sought by the authorities. He is wanted for attacking uniformed officers and was found to have a firearm in a fanny pack. The seized vehicle contained various items, including radiofrequency devices, gloves, and an iron nail. The Scientific Police processed the scene, and the investigation is now under the jurisdiction of the Prosecutor’s Office.
