Shooting in Philadelphia leaves four dead and four wounded; the attacker was arrested

Four people died and four others were injured in a shooting today monday night in Philadelphiaand a suspect was detained, local media reported, citing police.

A spokesperson for the Police Department of Philadelphia confirmed there were “multiple gunshot victims” but said no further details were immediately available.

At around 8:40 p.m. local time, about 10 minutes after the shots rang out, police reported that they had detained a suspicious man wearing a bulletproof vest and recovered a rifle and pistol in a nearby alley, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Both the Inquirer and the WPVI television network of Philadelphiaaffiliated with ABC News, reported that two of the people shot were minors, but it was not clear if they were among the dead.

WPVI video footage from the scene of the shooting showed several police cars parked near an intersection, their lights flashing in the dark, and parts of the street cordoned off with yellow and red crime scene tape.

The shooting came a day after two people were killed and 28 others injured, half of them children, in a shooting at an outdoor block party in Baltimore, Maryland. Police stated that they were still looking for several suspects in that shooting.
