Shooting at Sweden School in Orebro Leaves Five People Injured Suddenly

A shooting occurred at a school in the city of Orebro, in central Sweden, on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to five people, including the alleged attacker, according to the police. The police reported that four people were shot, but the extent of their injuries is not clear. Shortly after, they announced that a fifth person was also injured.

The police initially stated that “there was a shooting at school” and that the operation was ongoing. In a subsequent press conference, Orebro police chief Roberto Eid Forest explained that one of the injured individuals is suspected to be the aggressor. However, he added that they cannot rule out the possibility of other suspects and are continuing to investigate the motives behind the incident and whether there are other potential suspects.

Images from the scene show a significant police presence, with ambulances and emergency vehicles on site. Nearby schools, including the school where the shooting occurred, were placed on lockdown “for security reasons,” according to the police. A teacher from one of the schools, Petter Kraftling, reported hearing shots and taking cover, stating that he was waiting for news and had activated an alarm in the school’s security app.

The shooting is being investigated as “attempted murder, premeditated fire, and aggravated crime of arms.” The police warned that “the danger is not over” shortly after 2:00 pm local time. The government is closely monitoring the situation, with Justice Minister Gunnar Strommer stating that they are in close contact with the police and following the events.

According to local reports, automatic weapon fire was heard, and the city’s hospital had to reorganize its emergency and intensive care departments to accommodate the injured. While attacks of this nature are rare in Sweden, there have been several serious incidents in schools in recent years. In March 2022, an 18-year-old student killed two teachers in a high school in the city of Malmo, in southern Sweden.
