Cautious Approach with Bumrah’s Injury
India’s pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, is currently dealing with a waist swelling issue. A medical source has advised him to take complete rest at home to allow the muscles to recover and the swelling to subside naturally. Only after a thorough assessment of his condition will a decision be made regarding his selection for the upcoming Champions Trophy.
Avoiding Rushed Return
Given Bumrah’s past struggles with back issues, the team management is being cautious and not rushing his return. The objective is to ensure that the swelling or injury does not exacerbate, which would further delay his recovery.
Bumrah’s visit to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru is being planned but has yet to be finalized. A source stated that the focus is on him getting the required rest and allowing the swelling to resolve on its own. Once he has made a significant recovery, a decision can be taken on his future participation.
Timeline for Squad Announcement
The International Cricket Council (ICC) had initially set January 12 as the deadline for announcing the Champions Trophy squad, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) requested an extension. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla stated that the team will be announced on January 18 or 19.
If Bumrah is not initially included in the squad, Team India still has the opportunity to make changes until February 13. This allows the team management to closely monitor Bumrah’s progress and include him in the squad if he makes a successful recovery.
