Shoaib Akhtar resigns from PTV Sports, leaves TV show

Former Pakistani fast bowler, Shoaib Akhtar, was embroiled in controversy when he resigned from his position as a cricket analyst, leaving a television show midway after the host of the government-controlled PTV told him ask him to leave. Akhtar said the event host misbehaved and insulted him after Pakistan’s five-pitch victory over New Zealand in the T20 World Cup on Tuesday.

Akhtar, 46, a cricketer who played 46 tryouts and 163 ODI for Pakistan, got up, took off the mic and left. Show host Nauman Niaz made no attempt to call her back and showed no response and the show continued. But the other guests at the event were Sir Vivian Richards, David Gower, Rashid Latif, Umar Gul, Aaqib Javed and the captain of the Pakistan women’s team, Sana Mir. There was an uproar on social media after Akhtar left the show and people asked Niyaz to apologize. The video of the debate between Akhtar and Niyaz was shared on social media.

At the same time, former bowler Akhtar clarified his position by posting on Twitter on Wednesday. Akhtar tweeted: “So many videos are popping up on social media so I thought I should clarify my position. No one was rude and asked me to leave the show.” He said, “It was very embarrassing because with you the legends like Sir Vivian Richards and David Gower and some of my contemporaries and elders were also sitting on set and millions of people were watching.”

Akhtar said: “I have tried to save everyone from embarrassment by saying that I am teasing Nauman out of mutual understanding and that Nauman will also politely apologize and we will continue the program.” He refused to apologize. After that I had no other choice.

Nauman tried to stop him and got irritated with Akhtar. He told Shoaib that he is not paying attention to him and that he will not tolerate it. The host said, “You were bad to me and I tell you that you can leave the show now.” Then he took the break. Akhtar later apologized to the other experts and later announced that he would resign from PTV Sports.
