Comedian Kunal Kamra is in hot water after roasting Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a recent stand-up show. The jokes didn’t sit well with the Shiv Sena party, who’s now slamming Kamra with threats and police complaints.
A viral video of the show sparked outrage, leading Shiv Sena workers to vandalize a Mumbai hotel where the show was recorded. They even filed an FIR against Kamra. The party claims it’s a conspiracy to defame Shinde, and they’re not backing down.
Kamra poked fun at Shinde for splitting the party and joining forces with the BJP, calling him a “traitor” during his show. In a clip from the event, Kamra is seen singing a song from the movie “Dil To Pagal Hai,” referencing a leader from Thane – a clear jab at Shinde. Although Kamra didn’t mention Shinde’s name directly, the message was loud and clear.
Shiv Sena workers took to the streets in Mumbai, burning Kamra’s pictures and protesting against the comedian. A complaint filed by Shiv Sena leader Rahul Kanal alleged that Kamra’s actions were a “pre-planned criminal conspiracy” aimed at tarnishing Shinde’s reputation.
The complaint demands legal action, stating that Kamra’s words hurt public sentiments, used obscene language, and made defamatory comments against Shinde – all of which are not only insulting but also illegal. An FIR has been filed against Kamra based on a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel.
A group of Shiv Sena workers showed up at the hotel in Mumbai’s Khar area, where Kamra’s stand-up video was recorded, and caused chaos. They vandalized the hotel and even damaged Kamra’s office.
Meanwhile, leaders from the Uddhav Sena faction have condemned the vandalism and criticized the government. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut shared a video of the attack, calling Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis “weak.” Aditya Thackeray reacted to the controversy, saying that the song about Shinde is 100% true and only an insecure coward would react to it.
