Shipwrecks in Greece, many migrants at sea

ANTHES: A number of people have been killed in various incidents of migrant boat sinking in the Aegean Sea, which is considered a hotbed of pirates.

According to the foreign news agency, the Greek Coast Guard said that at least three people were killed when the boat sank in the Aegean Sea on Friday, while a few hours later another 11 people were killed in another incident.

Coast Guard officials said they had recovered three bodies and rescued 57 people from another sinking boat near the island of Paros.

This is the third incident of a migrant boat sinking in the last three days.

Earlier on Wednesday, a small boat carrying migrants capsized in Folgandos, killing three people, officials said. Bodies were found, 90 people were rescued trapped on the same island, including 11 women, including 27 children.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says the Folgandos incident is the worst in the Aegean Sea this year.

According to the UNHCR, more than 2,500 people were killed or missing at sea trying to reach Europe between January and November this year.
