Most crypto investors would like to forget about 2022 as soon as possible, as just about every cryptocurrency is deeply in the red over the past year. Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, announced the three most viewed cryptocurrencies of the past year in a tweet.

It will come as no surprise to many that both bitcoin (BTC) and ethereum (ETH) are part of this. The number three, however, is one that is less obvious, namely: Shiba Inu (SHIB).
Popularity SHIB
2021 was the year when the popular meme coin had experienced a massive surge. Many crypto investors considered the project to be the ideal way to get rich quickly. In October 2021, SHIB’s price peaked at $0.00008616, allowing some buyers to actually call themselves millionaires.
Despite the current bear market, the number remains holders of the meme coin just increase. In the month of December there are already about 16,000 new holders, bringing the total to 1,266,810 according to data from Etherscan.
Also on CoinMarketCap the token still seems to be popular among the website visitors. The cryptocurrency is in fifth place of the most viewed crypto of the past day. Over the past 30 days, it currently stands at 13e the most viewed cryptocurrency on CoinMarketCap.
Nevertheless, SHIB’s price was of course unable to escape the price action of bitcoin and with it the entire crypto market. SHIB’s price has lost 73.64% of its value in the past year and measured from the peak it has actually fallen by 90.08%.
SHIB announcement?
The team behind Shiba Inu recently dropped out through a tweet know that a special countdown had begun to what some say could be a major announcement. Some community members are speculating whether developers might be ready layer-2 solution.
