Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan elected third President of UAE

The United Arab Emirates High Council has elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed as its President.

Following the death of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan following a foreign news agency, the UAE High Council has elected Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed President of the country.

Born in 1961, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed is the son of the first president of the country’s first president, Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and the younger brother of former president Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed was appointed Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in 2004.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has also served as the Deputy Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the UAE Armed Forces since 2005.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed has been instrumental in the development of Abu Dhabi over the past two decades.

Abu Dhabi is the largest and richest state in the UAE. So far, all three presidents of the UAE have been from the same state.
