Sharad Kelkar wants to break intense image, play comedic role of Crime Master Gogo

Sharad Kelkar is a man on a mission – to shatter his intense on-screen image and become the next comedy sensation. In a candid chat, the actor revealed his dream of playing a character like Crime Master Gogo, a iconic role made famous by Shakti Kapoor.

Kelkar confessed that he’s tired of being typecast as a serious actor and wants to showcase his lighter side. “I want to play a role like Crime Master Gogo, with my own twist,” he said. The actor believes that people often mistake his on-screen persona for his real-life personality, which is far more fun-loving and carefree.

Despite his desire to explore comedy, Kelkar has found it tough to break away from his intense image. He recalled how he was constantly offered police roles after making a name for himself in the industry. “People thought I was the next Jagdish Raj, and I’d be perfect for every police role,” he chuckled. However, Kelkar was determined to avoid being typecast and made a conscious effort to take on diverse roles.

The actor also pointed out that directors, too, are often typecast in the industry. He cited the example of Vikram Bhatt, who’s known for his horror films but has also directed successful comedies like “Awaara Paagal Deewana”. Kelkar believes that both actors and directors need to break free from their respective molds to explore new genres and showcase their range.

Kelkar’s desire to play a character like Crime Master Gogo is not surprising, given the iconic status of the role. Shakti Kapoor’s portrayal of the bumbling villain is still widely popular, and Kelkar hopes to bring his own brand of humor to the character. With his versatility and passion for comedy, it’s likely that Kelkar will soon be making audiences laugh in a role that’s a far cry from his intense on-screen image.

In recent times, Kelkar was seen in a music video titled “Jay Bhavani Jay Shivaji”, which paid tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The video featured Kelkar alongside Sharad Malhotra and Shaaji Chaudhary, with Kailash Kher lending his voice to the song. As Kelkar continues to explore different genres and roles, it’s clear that he’s ready to take on new challenges and make a mark in the industry.
