Shanghai ranking: here is the best French university

The 2021 edition of the Shanghai ranking revealed the best universities on the planet, according to its criteria. Four French establishments are in the top 100. But which one is the best ranked in France?

The Anglo-Saxons dominate the international ranking, with the first twelve places. The American Harvard University is in the lead, followed by Stanford and the British Cambridge. Then the United States came into force, followed by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Berkeley and Princeton, ahead of the famous Oxford (England). An unchanged order since 2017.

In thirteenth place, with the honorary title of first non-Anglo-Saxon establishment and, therefore, first French, Paris-Saclay occupies the position. The university in the south of the capital, which includes in particular CentraleSupélec and AgroParisTech, has gained a place compared to last year’s ranking.

In addition to Paris-Saclay, three other French establishments are present in the top 100. The Shanghai ranking, which some prefer to rate, is constructed each year according to six criteria: the number of Nobel laureates or Fields medals (the equivalent in mathematics) among researchers and among former graduates, the number of researchers with the most cited in His studies. disciplines, the number of publications in Nature and Science journals, those indexed in two US citation indexes, and finally the academic performance according to the size of the institution.
