“Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings” or the arrival of an Asian superhero at Marvel, the feel good movie “A triumph” with Kad Merad, and the horrific thriller “Malignant” … Here are three features -measures to be discovered at the cinema this Wednesday, September 1st.
“Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings”, by Destin Daniel Cretton
A new superhero arrives in the Marvel universe. With “Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings”, it is indeed the first time that a character of Asian origin is brought to the fore. This one is played by Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu, who will team up with his friend Katy (Awkwafina) in this feature film that celebrates martial arts. Shang-Chi, who lost his mother, settled in San Francisco in order to escape the organization of the ten rings, whose leader is none other than his father Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung), a tyrannical being who dreams that her son becomes a killer. A project that is not to the taste of the young man. And when he is approached by this mysterious alliance, Shang-Chi decides to go and fight his father in China, helped by his sister Xialing. “He must find the strength to break free from his father’s legacy to follow his own path. But all stories are always multi-faceted, ”says producer Kevin Feige.
“A triumph”, by Emmanuel Courcol
Etienne (masterful Kad Merad) is an actor who struggles to make ends meet and struggles both professionally and family. Contacted by his old friend Stéphane (Laurent Stocker), a brilliant director, he agrees to lead a workshop in a prison. With his gang of prisoners and supported by a benevolent director (Marina Hands), he embarks on a crazy challenge: to stage “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett, the story of “two guys in shit who hope for tomorrow best ”. A moving and human film which is inspired by the true story of the Swedish actor Jan Jönson, who had tried the experiment in a prison of his country in the 1980s. “A triumph” brings back the smile and delivers a message of hope.
“Malignant”, by James Wan
The master of horror is back to school. Author of the “Conjuring” and “Insidious” sagas, but also of the first installment of the “Saw” franchise, director James Wan – who is currently filming “Aquaman 2” – returns to his favorite genre by unveiling the horrific thriller “Malignant” , starring Madison Mitchell.
Played by Annabelle Wallis, this young woman is the victim of nightmarish visions in which a monster, presented as “evil incarnate”, directly kills women and men she does not know. And these hallucinations that haunt her day and night unfortunately echo reality.
