In a decision contrary to what is happening in the rest of the world, the Natural Resources Directorate of Entre Ríos has enabled a season that allows hunting of five species of native birds.

Cutiri duck, spotted duck, red crab, pampa crab and common inambu are the five native birds that the Directorate of Natural Resources -in charge of Mariano Farall- decided to place on the list of authorized species for hunting.

The hunting season will run for three months, from May 14 to August 15.

The controversial decision – whose technical foundations were not disclosed by the agency – is taken after a year of 2021 with a great drought across the province and very serious fires in the Delta that caused the decrease of populations and the difficulty of reproduction.

Organizations such as Ceydas (Center for the Study and Defense of Wild Birds) Entre Ríos expressed their rejection of this decision. You can do it in this petition:

cutiri duck

These are the areas of the province that will be enabled for small-scale sport hunting, which includes permission to kill five species of native birds. The northern part of the province, on the border with Corrientes, is the one that generates the most alarm, given its proximity to the Esteros del Iberá, the largest wetland in Argentina, which suffered very serious fires last summer and is still recovering.
