Shakib disappointed with Bangladesh’s performance at T20 World Cup 2022, following loss to Pakistan

After missing out on the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022 with just two wins from five Super 12 matches, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said on Sunday it was the best possible result for his team with the addition of new faces. Many changes were made to the team.

Pakistan and Bangladesh had golden chances to reach the quarter-final stage after South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands to knock them out of the T20 World Cup. However, Bangladesh suffered a five-wicket loss in their previous Super 12 match, which was a virtual quarter-final, allowing Pakistan to advance to the semi-finals.

Shakib said: “In terms of results, this is our best performance in the T20 World Cup. We could have done better. But having said that, with the arrival of new players, with changes, it is the best, what we can hope for.”

The captain felt that if the batsmen had batted to the end, a few more runs could have been scored. He said: “At one point we were 70/1. We wanted to score 145-150, which would have been a fair total in that field. We knew it would be tough for the new hitters, so the established hitters had to wait until the end. move on, which didn’t happen.”

According to the experienced all-rounder, he could have done better and kept playing. Shakib said, “Based on my performance, I could have done better. As long as I’m fit and performing well, I’d love to play.”
