Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor recently made a special reveal. He thought that he would never succeed as an actor, despite being the son of Pankaj Kapur.
At first, Shahid was very worried about his career choice. In 2003, he made his film debut in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk. Most people think that Shahid had it easy because his parents, Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem, are actors. But that is certainly not the case.
“I didn’t think I could become an actor because most people didn’t know me and that’s why they didn’t know that I was the son of Pankaj Kapur,” Shahid said.
“My parents were divorced and I didn’t live in Mumbai. I moved here much later. My mother was a single mother and I lived with her. I also didn’t tell anyone who my father was, so I didn’t know if people would accept me or not,” she adds.
It was only after his first movie came out that it was discovered that he is the son of Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem. “I used to think: if my first movie doesn’t work out, I can go. It is a blessing that he is an actor. I know a lot of people probably don’t believe it because my parents are technically actors, but they didn’t know a lot of people,” Shahid said.
On the other hand, it also makes sense. Her parents were not big names in the movie industry. The stage for actors like Pankaj and Neelima was small. Fortunately, that is changing and we see more and more actors like her parents like Pankaj Tripathi, Nawazuddin Siddique and others starring on the big screen.
Shahid Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur can now be seen together in the movie Jersey. They previously collaborated on the films Mausam (2011), Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013), and Shaandaar (2015).
