Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat: A Dream Fulfilled, Renamed From ‘Jannat’

Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic Mumbai residence, Mannat, holds a unique history that began long before the superstar acquired it. Many fans are unaware of the bungalow’s original name or the story of how Khan made it his own.

The desire to own a grand bungalow like Mannat is widespread, with people globally hoping to glimpse the King’s home. Khan first laid eyes on the property in 1997 while filming “Yes Boss.” He famously declared then that one day, it would be his.

During the shoot for the song “Chaand Taare Tod Laoon…” near Bandstand in Bandra, Khan pointed to the beautiful old bungalow by the sea. He told his co-star Juhi Chawla and director Aziz Mirza, “Look, I will definitely buy this house one day.” At the time, few believed his casual remark would come true.

Khan later shared in an interview that he grew up in Delhi, where he also had a bungalow. Moving to Mumbai, he always envisioned a large, open house that would evoke memories of his Delhi home. Mannat immediately struck him as that perfect house.

Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, purchased the bungalow in 2001. It was initially named ‘Jannat’, meaning ‘heaven’.

In 2005, the magnificent property was renamed ‘Mannat’, a Hindi word meaning ‘wish’ or ‘prayer’. This change symbolized the fulfillment of Khan’s long-held desire to own the house.

“Yes Boss” was a romantic comedy directed by Aziz Mirza. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan, Aditya Pancholi, and Juhi Chawla in lead roles.

Ratan Jain produced the film, which was based on the Michael J. Fox movie “For Love or Money.”

Looking ahead, Shah Rukh Khan is set to appear in the upcoming film “King.” His daughter, Suhana Khan, will also play a significant role in the movie.

“King” is directed by Siddharth Anand and is anticipated for release in late 2026. Gauri Khan and Mamata Anand are producing the film under the banners of Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Entertainment. Abhishek Bachchan is also expected to join the cast in a key role.
