A group of seven employees, aged between 24 and 28, who worked at a commercial store on New Palmira street in the Commercial neighborhood, have been sentenced for theft. The employees would purchase items on behalf of other people, but during the shipping process, they would add extra items without billing or paying for them, and then have these items sent to their own homes.
Investigation and Raids
Following an analysis and intelligence work, investigators from the Operational Zone of the Police carried out eleven raids across different neighborhoods in Montevideo, resulting in the arrest of nine employees from the store.
Seized Items
Upon searching the employees’ homes, investigators seized a variety of items that had been sent from the store through fraudulent purchases. These items included bicycles, swimming pools, children’s car seats, sports products, and other goods.
Convictions and Sentences
Of the nine individuals detained during the raids, six were convicted. One employee was sentenced to one year and eight months in prison for aggravated theft, which will be served on probation. Three other employees received sentences of one year and two months, also to be served on probation, for the same crime of aggravated theft.
The remaining two employees were charged with 10 months of probation for the crime of receiving stolen goods. The seventh employee was given limitations on their freedom, including being required to register their domicile and being prohibited from leaving the country.
