Sergio Higuita leaves the top 10, Nairo goes up and Egan is still far

The 2023 season is already progressing. After the first competitions of the year, the UCI established the world ranking with several changes in terms of Colombian riders, taking into account the last 52 weeks. Sergio Higuita continues to be the best of ours, ranking 11th with 2,027 points; while, Egan is still very far from the top positions. Nairo, although he continues without a team, managed to climb one position after the Nationals on the road in which he added 60 points for his podium.

Colombian cycling seeks to be the protagonist again in 2023, Although for Rigoberto Urán the future is complicated since he does not have any “good” ones, for Germán Darío Gómez, the under 23 who won the individual time trial at the Nationals, that statement is not so true, because he believes that there is talent, but there is a lack of support. For now, UCI records show that there are only two riders among the 20 best in the world out of the 89 it has on its list.

Sergio Higuita and Dani Martínez, the only ones in the world top 20

The two riders are part of the 20 best cyclists in the world, Higuita with Bora has 2,027 points and is 11th in the ranking. Daniel Felipe Martínez accumulates 1,960 and is in 14th place, he rose one position according to the last ranking. After them appears in 45th place Miguel Ángel López who won the time trial in the Nationals and Nairo together with Rigo close the top 5 of Colombians.

Esteban Chaves and Superman, promoted after winning in Nationals on the road

At the national level, the top 10 is closed by Einer Rubio with 391 points (position 204 globally). The recent performance of Chaves in the Nationals on the road allowed him to add 100 points and go from position 106 to 101, being together with Miguel Ángel López the ones who won the most places after winning first place in the recent competitions that were held in the country.

Of the top 10 Colombians, Fernando Gaviria and Rigoberto Urán were the ones who remained in the same positions. The surprise was in Santiago Buitrago, who despite having been third on the Saudi Tour, lost 13 places. Egan ranks 60th, but he will position himself better as soon as he starts to score more points, if he recovers from his knee discomfort he would be ready to compete in the Vuelta a Andalucía that will be from February 15 to 19.
