Sergi Martínez renews with Barça and goes on loan to Girona

Barça and Bàsquet Girona announced this Friday that Sergi Martínez will play next season for the Girona team on loanafter the Barcelona entity has extended the Rubí forward’s contract by one year, which ended on June 30, 2024.

Martínez, 24 years old and 202 centimeters, will play this season on loan at Fontajau and, upon his return, he will still have one more year left on his contract with Barça. The academy player arrived at Bàsquet Girona after playing 83 games in the ACB and 65 in the Euroleague with the Barça club in three seasons.

Last season, in which he had no luck with injuries, he averaged 1.9 points and 2.6 rebounds in 10 and a half minutes per game in the Endesa League.

In a statement distributed by Girona, Sergi Martínez was “very happy” and stated that “it is a pride to represent this great team” and “an opportunity to grow professionally as a player”.

The forward follows in the footsteps of point guard Juani Marcos, also on loan from Barça. And it is the sixth incorporation of the team, after center Stefan Dordevic, power forward Yves Pons, guard Markel Brown and point guards Marcos and Ike Iroegbu. The coach, Salva Camps, also has the guard Maxi Fjellerup, the forward Èric Vila and the center Jaume Sorolla, renewed, and the point guard Quino Colom, with a contract.
