Heavy rain has battered Seoul and surrounding areas in South Korea since Friday afternoon.
In some areas, the rain reached 74mm in just one hour.
The local government sent out emergency SMS alerts to people’s phones for the first time this year.
The alerts warned people to watch out for sudden flooding, especially in Onam-eup, Namyangju, about 25km from Seoul.
The Korea Meteorological Administration reported that some areas got over 118.5mm of rain that day.
This was more than the 90mm threshold for a warning over three hours or 50mm per hour.
The bad weather forced Seoul officials to close 25 main streams, including Cheonggyecheon and Anyangcheon streams, to keep people safe.
The heavy rain also caused serious traffic jams during rush hour, especially on main roads in the city.
Officials are warning people to stay alert and avoid low-lying areas near rivers and streams until the rain stops.
The heavy rain is due to cold air meeting warm, humid air from a low-pressure system moving across southern Korea.
The rain is expected to continue until Saturday morning in some parts of Gangwon, Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Jeju Island.
