Selena Gomez debuted a fresh new hairstyle on Instagram on Sunday, October 13, embracing a significant change. The 33-year-old artist revealed a voluminous bob, cut just above her jawline, paired with straight bangs.
Her new fringe sits slightly above her eyebrows and was styled to sweep across her forehead. The rest of her straight brown hair was parted down the middle.
Gomez humorously captioned her post, "I wonder if Willy Wonka is hiring." She playfully likened her new look to Johnny Depp’s character in the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Her appearance was completed with detailed makeup, including winged eyeliner, defined brows, and long lashes. She sported coral pink lips, flushed cheeks, and a touch of pink eyeshadow.
Gomez wore a simple white crew-neck T-shirt, allowing her new hairstyle to take center stage.
This new bob follows a different style from her recent wedding look. For her September 27 wedding to Benny Blanco, Gomez wore her hair slightly past her shoulders.
Celebrity stylist Renato Campora styled her bridal hair. He opted for a loose, side-parted look for her special day.
Campora shared details of the process with Harper’s Bazaar. He emphasized the importance of perfection for the celebration of "joy, unity, and love."
He began by double-washing Gomez’s hair with Joico Defy Damage shampoo. This was followed by a 30-minute treatment using Joico Defy Damage KBOND20 Power Masque.
Campora noted this combination "restores hair by removing buildup and deeply cleansing."
For styling, he applied Joico JoiWhip Design Foam. He then blow-dried her hair with a large round brush, pinning sections to cool for added volume.
"I made a deep side part and continued this technique throughout the entire head to achieve a voluminous and polished base," Campora explained. He observed that once cooled, "the hair looks remarkably shiny, with bounce and full of life."
He used a curling iron to create a soft wave, focusing on face-framing sections. Joico hairspray ensured the style lasted throughout the night.
Campora described the final wedding look as "an impeccable, timeless, and healthy-looking Marcel Wave bob, Hollywood Glamour style." He added it was perfect "for a day that celebrates love, beauty, and perfection."
Gomez has a history of experimenting with her hair. In 2007, she sported a bright blue streak at a Teen Vogue party.
By 2010, she grew her hair out while filming The Wizards of Waverly Place. She added caramel highlights in 2013 before returning to black in 2015.
One of her most dramatic changes was a platinum blonde look in London in 2017, complete with ash roots. She later reverted to brown and introduced balayage in 2023.
