SEC does not want lawyer for 67,000 Ripple investors to get involved in lawsuit

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has requested an extension of the deadline to object to attorney John Deaton’s recent “amici request.” The SEC does not want the attorney, who represents 67,300 XRP investors, to interfere in the lawsuit.

The SEC asks for a postponement

Attorney John Deaton wants to give 67,300 Ripple investors a voice in Ripple Labs’ protracted lawsuit against the SEC. However, the SEC sees no point in this and wants to block the lawyer’s request. To do this, the SEC has to object and of course all of this takes a lot of time.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has therefore asked for a postponement. The SEC’s motion shows that they want the court to extend the deadline to June 7, 2022 so that the agency can properly object to Attorney Deaton’s request.

The SEC said they will probably have the appeal ready around May 30, but since the Memorial Day holiday starts then, the appeal will not be handed in until June 7.

Both Ripple and attorney Deaton don’t seem to oppose the SEC’s request for a postponement. An excerpt from the motion reads:

“Defendants have notified the SEC that they have no objection to this extension request, so long as the SEC agrees that a response from defendants will be no later than Friday, June 10, 2022. The SEC has no objection to this proposed deadline.”
