Sebastián Beccacece, new manager of Elche in Spain

Sebastián Beccacece directs again. The former Defensa y Justicia, Racing and Independiente is expected at the Elche of Spain to assume as the new DT of the club that is owned by the businessman Christian Bragarnik and it’s almost doomed to relegation when there are 12 dates remaining for the end of the Spanish LaLiga.

As published by the sports newspaper ACE, “Beccacece’s arrival at Elche is focused on work for the next seasonmore than in the present where the team is located in the last place of the table”.

In Elche they play the Argentines Axel Werner, Lisandro Magallán, Nicolás Fernández Mercau, Lautaro Blanco, Lucas Boyé and Ezequiel Ponce, and Beccacece will be the fourth coach in the same season. The team is last with 13 points in 26 dates, 13 units from the penultimate and 14 from the safety zone.

The previous DTs, Argentine Jorge Almirón and the Spaniards Francisco and Pablo Machín failed to straighten the course of the team that now opted for the 42-year-old from Rosario to “start planning for the next season despite the 12 dates that remain to be played in this League”.

Beccacece is one of the many coaches represented by Christian Bragarnik and his name had already been mentioned last October to replace Francisco, but the Argentine could not do so due to problems with the approval of his license to be able to train in Europe, something that has already been solved.

The DT, who was also at the 2018 World Cup in Russia as assistant to Jorge Sampaoli -almost simultaneously he was fired from Sevilla- in the Argentine National Team, has been living in Spain for a few months and now he will have his first experience as a coach in European football.

Becca spent most of her career in Defense and Justice, another club sponsored by Bragarnik, where he had three stages (2016-17, 2018-19 and 2021-22). In the last one he added his only title, the Recopa Sudamericana. His mark in Florencio Varela is very good: 154 games with 69 wins, 41 draws and 44 losses.

His debut as head coach was in 2016 at the University of Chileafter accompanying Sampaoli in the National Team of that country, but it did not go very well: 24 games, 5 wins, 9 draws and 10 losses.

Then he went to Defense and it was the turn of the Argentine National Team, an adventure that ended unhappily and with the DT again in Florencio Varela. In 2019 he went to Independiente, where he had an express stay: 16 games, 8 wins, one draw and 7 losses.

In 2020 he changed his path and signed with Racing, where he had quick revenge on Red: his third game on the academic bench was the famous victory with 9 players and a goal by Chilean Marcelo Díaz. But at the best moment in Avellaneda came the pandemic and the stoppage. In total he directed 29 games in Racing, with 13 wins, 8 draws and 8 losses until the beginning of 2021 to then return once again to the Halcón de Varela.
