Sean McVay will return to the Rams in 2023

After having the worst season ever for a defending champion, Sean McVay declared that he would contemplate his future with the The Angels rams and everything indicates that he will continue as head coach of the Californian franchise.

According to the report by Diana Russini, from ESPN, the 36-year-old head coach has decided to stay with the Rams for the 2023 NFL season.

The Rams finished the season 5-12, the worst under McVay, due to injuries to defensive tackle Aaron Donald, quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Cooper Kupp. Since 2017, the Los Angeles team has a 60-38 record in normal season and from 7-3 in playoffs.

The immediate future looks complicated since his first-round pick in the 2023 Draft belongs to the Detroit Lions due to the trade for Stafford. This year, the Rams were designated to take the sixth position, behind only the Bears, Texans, Cardinals, Colts and Seahawks.

After winning Super Bowl LVI over the Cincinnati Bengals, McVay said he couldn’t imagine coaching at 60 and that he was looking to do more things in his life.

Networks emerged as candidates to make him an analyst, but two weeks after the Super Bowl he made it clear that it was not yet time to leave the NFL franchise. Following that, McVay signed a contract extension that has him tied to the Rams through the 2026 season.
