Scam in Parking Lots: Suspect Detained for Staging Fake Accidents

Scams are everywhere. You’ve got to be on your toes. It’s not just online where scammers thrive – they’re also targeting people in parking lots. Recently, a suspect was caught running a scam in a parking lot.

Faking Car Accidents for Cash

The Porto Territorial Command of the GNR arrested a man last month on suspicion of scamming, extortion, and making threats. There’s another suspect still out there. According to the authorities, the scammers would stage car accidents in parking lots, claim damage, and demand money from victims to fix the supposed damage. If the victims didn’t pay up, they’d get threatened.

The scammers would target people in parking lots, pretending to have damaged their cars during parking maneuvers. They’d then demand money to repair the fake damage. The authorities say the scammers even stole a gold chain from an elderly woman in a public street.

The GNR is still investigating the case, but it’s a Reminder to be careful in public, especially in parking lots. Scammers are getting creative, and it’s up to us to stay one step ahead.
