Saudi Arabia offers to mediate between Russia and Ukraine

Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) (BLAZETRENDS).- The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed bin Salmán, expressed his country’s willingness to mediate between Russia and Ukraine to “solve the crisis politically” during his opening speech of the Arab League summit in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Bin Salman expressed “the (Saudi) Kingdom’s readiness to conduct mediation efforts between Russia and Ukraine and support international efforts to resolve the crisis politically and help achieve peace and security.”

The Saudi crown prince made these statements during his opening speech at the 32nd edition of the summit of heads of state of the Arab League, which had Zelensky as a guest of honor, who made a surprise visit this Friday to the Saudi city of Jeddah. to participate in the forum.

Improving relations between Ukraine and the Arab world

Upon his arrival in the Arab monarchy, Zelensky said on Twitter that his visit is aimed at “improving bilateral relations and Ukraine’s ties with the Arab world.”

“Political prisoners in Crimea and temporarily occupied territories (by Russia), the return of our people, the Peace Formula, energy cooperation. Saudi Arabia plays an important role and we are ready to take our cooperation to a new level,” added the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky’s visit comes amid a historic Arab League summit, as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is participating for the first time in 12 years, after Damascus was readmitted to the pan-Arab body earlier this month after his expulsion in 2011 for his crackdown on anti-government protests.

Precisely, Syria was one of the five countries that voted last year and again this against the resolution condemning the invasion of Ukraine, along with Russia itself, Belarus, North Korea and Eritrea.
