Saudi Arabia: Heavy fine and punishment for abuse of elderly people

Riyadh: There is a crime of abusing elderly people in Saudi Arabia for which heavy fines and punishments have been imposed, the Public Prosecution has issued a warning in this regard.

According to the Saudi website, the Saudi Public Prosecution has said that abusing elderly people is a punishable offense punishable by one year imprisonment and a fine of 500,000 riyals.

Public Prosecution noted that Saudi Arabia has a law on the rights and care of the elderly, and that there is a penalty for depriving the elderly of their rights.

The Public Prosecution said in a tweet on the occasion of International Day of the Elderly that anyone who abused an elderly person would be punished under Section 3 of the Elderly Rights Act.

The law states that the elderly have the right to live with their families, the family has a responsibility to provide for the care of the elderly in the home and to take care of them, the family will be punished for not fulfilling their responsibilities. Û”

The Public Prosecution pointed out that section 15 of the law prohibits spending the wealth of the elders of the family against their will.

Ignoring the rights of the elderly and depriving them of their rights is a punishable act. A person who abuses an elderly person is liable to imprisonment for up to one year and a fine of up to 500,000 riyals.
