Sarfaraz Ahmed: Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has returned to his country’s test squad after four years. Such a comeback that in just four innings from two Tests, he became Pakistan’s most solid, reliable and top batsman. The Pakistani wicket-keeper batsman was dropped from the squad after going off for a duck against South Africa in January 2019. He returned to the squad on 26 December 2022 in the first match of the two Test series against New Zealand and bowled big innings one after another. Upon his return, he scored 86 runs off 153 balls in the first innings and hit 53 runs off 76 balls in the second innings of the same match. The first test of the series against New Zealand ended in a draw. The beginning of the new year was also great for Sarfaraz. He scored 78 off 109 balls in the first innings of the second Test against the Kiwis. Along with this, he came back and scored a half-century hat-trick.

Coming back, Sarfaraz’s biggest entries were yet to come. New Zealand gave Pakistan a target of 319 runs to win in the late innings. All the top order batsmen including captain Babar Azam and Shan Masood missed but Sarfaraz once again made his base at the crease. He scored a century while batting at number six. He scored 118 runs off 176 balls and saved Pakistan’s embarrassment.
