Saravia and Bazán arrests linked to Marconi and Plácido Ellauri violence

A recent series of events in the neighborhood of Plácido Ellauri has led to the arrest of two men who were found with a 45 caliber weapon in their truck. The arrest took place on Tuesday afternoon in the Aparicio Saravia and Pedro Bazán area. Although the weapon is the same caliber used to kill a 30-year-old policeman on Monday night in the Marconi neighborhood of Montevideo, the cases are reportedly not related.

The policeman’s homicide has resulted in two adults being sought by the authorities. On Wednesday morning, the police conducted raids in the Marconi area but were unsuccessful in their search. According to investigators, there are more individuals involved in the case. The Interior Ministry official who was killed had finished his shift at 10 pm and was riding his motorcycle when he was diverted due to a traffic accident. He was then ambushed by criminals who shot and robbed him, stealing his regulation weapon.

The victim, who was wearing his uniform, suffered six gunshot injuries and died at the scene. His body was found next to his motorcycle, and five 45 caliber shells were recovered. On Tuesday, a house was shot at in the Lieutenant Galeano and Machíes area of Placido Ellauri, with 19 45 caliber and 9 millimeter shells found at the scene. The shells will be analyzed by the scientific police to determine if the same weapon used to kill the policeman was involved.

Later that day, another shooting occurred on Camino Leandro Gómez and Pedro Bazán, with over 40 45 caliber and 9 millimeter shells found. The police suspect that this shooting was intended to demonstrate firepower, as it did not appear to be aimed at any specific house or person. In a separate incident on the same night, a 13-year-old boy was killed and other minors were injured in the Leandro Gómez and Pedro de Mendoza area.
