Sarai Gascón wins bronze and Spain already equals 31 Rio medals

Sarai Gascón won the first medal for Spain in the pool this Thursday at the Tokyo Paralympic Games after taking the bronze medal in the final of the 100-meter butterfly in the S9 category. It is the second medal for the swimmer from Terrassa in these Games after the silver obtained in the 100 meters freestyle in class S9.

Gascón remained in the fight for the medals throughout the test though she went fourth for the flip as New Zealander Sophie Pascoe looked at the gold medal. Nevertheless Pascoe went deep in the last 50, something that the Hungarian Zsofia Konkoly took advantage of to overcome her and secure the gold with a time of 1:06:55. The downturn of Pascoe also took advantage of the American Elisabeth Smith, who was silver with 1: 08.22, and the Spanish Sarai Gascón, who flew in the last 50 with a time of 36.10 to take the bronze with 1: 08.43.

Thus Sarai Gascón adds the medal number 31 for Spain in these Paralympic Games, with which the Spanish delegation already equals the 31 medals achieved in total in the Paralympic Games in Rio 2016 when there are still three days of competition to be played … and with the possibility that more medals will fall this Thursday.
