The entertainment world is reeling from the sudden passing of beloved actress Diane Keaton. As news of her death spread, fans and friends alike shared their heartbreak. Among those visibly touched by the loss was actress Sarah Paulson, who was seen overcome with emotion outside Keaton’s home.
On Saturday, October 11, just hours after the sad announcement, Paulson, 50, was spotted weeping near Keaton’s residence. Reports from Page Six confirmed that the two women shared a long-standing friendship. Several other women were also seen leaving the home alongside Paulson, indicating a shared moment of grief for the late star.
Their close bond was clear in a 2021 interview for Interview Magazine. Keaton answered questions from 25 famous friends and fans. Paulson, known for her role in The People v. O.J. Simpson, had two thoughtful questions for her friend.
"If your house caught fire and you could only save one thing, what would it be?" Paulson asked. Keaton, without missing a beat, responded, "My dog, Reggie."
Paulson then asked another question meant to warm the heart: "What person, place, or thing brings joy to your heart? (You can say me)." Keaton’s reply was truly touching. "Of course, Sarah, you bring joy to my heart," she said. "My friends bring joy to my heart. My children bring joy to my heart. But also, a Lillet Blanc brings joy to my heart. (Served) With lots of ice."
The news of Keaton’s passing led to an outpouring of tributes for the Annie Hall icon. Goldie Hawn, who starred alongside Keaton in First Wives Club, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram right after the news broke.
"Diane, we are not ready to lose you," Hawn wrote. "You left us a trail of fairy dust, full of light particles and unimaginable memories. How do we say goodbye? What words can come to mind when your heart is broken? You never liked praise, always so humble, but now you can’t tell me ‘shut up,’ darling. There was not, nor will there be, anyone like you."
Hawn continued, recalling their time together. "You stole the world’s heart and shared your genius with millions, making movies that made us laugh and cry as only you could. I was fortunate to make First Wives Club with you; our days began with coffee in the makeup trailer, laughing and joking, until the last day of filming. It was a rollercoaster of love."

While the official cause of death has not yet been released, a close friend of Keaton, Carole Bayer Sager, shared some details with People magazine. In an interview published Sunday, October 12, Sager mentioned that the actress had lost a lot of weight in the weeks leading up to her death.
"I saw her two or three weeks ago and she was very thin," Sager explained. "She had lost a lot of weight."
Sager, who is 81, added that Keaton had spent significant time in Palm Springs earlier in the year. This was after the California wildfires in January 2025 caused damage to her home.
"She had to go to Palm Springs because her house suffered interior damage and they had to clean everything," Sager said. "She was there for a while, and when she returned, I was stunned by how much weight she had lost."
Sager described Keaton as "a magical light for everyone." She continued, "I adored her. She was so special, she lit up any room with her energy. She was happy and optimistic, and she photographed everything she saw. She was completely creative; she never stopped creating."
