The Organizing Committee of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, Santo Domingo 2026, made a presentation to the members of the Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports, of the work being carried out for the assembly of the great international sporting event.
The activity took place in the Las Carreras Hall of the Holiday Inn hotel, in the capital city, and was headed by José P. Monegro, president of the Santo Domingo 2026 Games Organizing Committee, Felipe Vicini, first vice president; Carolina Mejía, the mayoress of the National District; Felipe Vicini, first vice president; Mercedes Canalda, treasurer; Fernando Langa and Carlos Iglesias, members.
In addition, there were Arístides Fernández Zucco, link of the coordinating commission of the sub-venue of the San Salvador 2023 Games; Thomás Polanco, Nelson Ramírez, from the technical direction of Santo Domingo 2026.
The members of the Executive Committee of Centro Caribe Sports who were present were Steve Stoute, (Immediate Past President CACSO -CACSO-, from Barbados; Keith Joseph, CANOC president, from Trinidad & Tobago; Jimena Saldaña, 1st. Vice President Centro Caribe Sports, from Mexico; Venezuelan Eduardo Álvarez, Secretary General; Panamanian Camilo Amado, Treasurer; Judy Simons; 1st Member, from Bermuda; Cuban and former basketball player, Ruperto Herrera, 2nd Member; Ángel Morales, 4th Member, from United States Virgin Islands.
Using audiovisual resources, Monegro exposed in a precise and detailed way the executions of the Organizing Committee for the assembly of the 2026 event.
He also presented the progress made in the rehabilitation of the facilities of the seven sports of the San Salvador 2023 Games, for which the country will serve as a sub-venue.
Equestrian, canoeing, taekwondo, modern pentathlon, clay pigeon shooting, racquetball and field hockey will be the sports of San Salvador 2023 that will be played on Dominican soil.
He informed that in hockey a new field will be installed, which is already contracted with the factory and that meanwhile progress is being made in other areas to install said field as soon as it arrives in the country.
He expressed that in canoeing the bathymetry has already been contracted and that during the course of the week the tender will be raised with the appropriate resources for the track.
He said that the equestrian work is well advanced and mentioned the presence in the country of a track designer, who is accompanying the federation of that sport.
In racquetball, the facilities are being renovated and it was decided to change the court, because the floor has been there since 2003 and they preferred not to take risks and replace the court with a new one that will be used for the Santo Domingo 2026 Games. It is expected to be ready at least least one month before the event.
“In taekwondo we have made the decision to celebrate it in the Volleyball Pavilion, which is in optimal conditions,” said Monegro, adding that the tatami was purchased with the 2026 specifications and that the clothing was validated by the International Federation.
Regarding modern pentathlon, he said that agreements were reached to acquire the equipment, and that the facilities that will be used are enabled. One of them is the Olympic swimming pool, which is in optimal conditions, as well as fencing and a play area next to the pavilion for that sport is set up for laser shooting.
