Samson, 28, was also not selected for the T20I series against the Kiwis after the T20 World Cup 2022. He was selected for the first ODI in Auckland, but in the second match, the wicket-keeper batsman was dropped from the XI of play. India stand-in captain Shikhar Dhawan spoke candidly about the decision to drop Samson. “We wanted a sixth option bowling so Sanju Samson was lost and Hooda replaced him,” said Dhawan after the second ODI was washed away by rain. Earlier, India’s T20I stand-in captain Hardik Pandya had also said that resting Sanju Samson was an unfortunate affair. Pandya said that he could not choose Samson for strategic reasons.
