About Mahakaleshwar Temple
For those unfamiliar, the Mahakaleshwar Temple holds immense significance. Located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiv. People believe the Shivling here is “Swayambhu,” meaning it emerged naturally from its own power. Madhya Pradesh is also home to another Jyotirlinga, Omkareshwar, about 140 kilometers away. This sacred temple sits by the Shipra River. The Bhasma Aarti is a special ritual performed between 3:30 AM and 5:30 AM, where the deity is bathed with Panchamrit. It’s a truly unique and ancient ceremony.
