Sandor Martín Seeks WBC Super Lightweight Title Against Alberto Puello

Sandor Martín is set to face Alberto Puello on Saturday, March 2, in a battle for the World Super League Title of the World Boxing Council (WBC). Both contestants weighed in at the same weight, 139.2 pounds (63.1 kg), and had their last face-to-face encounter before the fight at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Sandor made his intentions clear, saying, “This is for me, for my family, for my country, for my people, I will be world champion on Saturday.” His opponent, Alberto Puello, attempted to play a psychological game, stating, “This has levels and boxing is not an easy thing, he will realize that.” However, Sandor has faced tough opponents like Mikey García and Teófimo López in the past, so he’s not intimidated.

After the weigh-in, Sandor and his team went through the standard procedures, including the reading of standards and the choice of gloves. Cristóbal Lorente, Sandor’s coach and the European weight champion, outlined their plan for the rest of the day: “Now we are going to eat, hydrate well, and rest. We will make a strong meal.” Lorente will be in Sandor’s corner, along with Rafa Martín and Rafa Valle, providing support and guidance throughout the fight.

Pre-Fight Ritual!s

Cristóbal Lorente shared the team’s pre-fight rituals, saying, “After dinner, we will take a walk, which is sacred, to lower the food and talk about the fight. In the morning, we take another walk and have lunch, but much less than the day before, because we like to go light.” This routine helps the team prepare mentally and physically for the battle ahead. Lorente also mentioned that a nap is essential, as the body appreciates the rest before the wear and tear of the fight.

During the weigh-in, Sandor and his team were in high spirits, smiling and reflecting on their journey. They talked about how far they’ve come, saying, “Did you imagine that 15 years ago we would be here?” As the fight approaches, the team will start to focus, with Rafa Martín placing the bandage and beginning with a soft warm-up. Cristóbal noted that Sandor’s demeanor changes as the fight nears, saying, “We started with jokes, but little by little Sandor concentrates. You put your helmets, heat on your own, and there comes a time that changes to the face. You look at it and say, this is not the Sandor two hours ago.” The stage is set for an intense battle, and Sandor Martín is ready to give it his all.
