Tensions between India and Pakistan have put Pakistani actors working in India in a tough spot. The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, prompted India to launch “Operation Sindoor.” This escalated tensions between the two nations.
Indian actors criticized their Pakistani counterparts for staying silent on the issue. Now, the directors of the 2016 film “Sanam Teri Kasam,” Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, have joined the criticism. They released a statement condemning Pakistani actors for their silence on cross-border terrorism.
Directors’ Statement
The directors told Hindustan Times that decades of cross-border terrorism have claimed many innocent Indian lives. They expressed disappointment at the silence or justifications from Pakistani actors working in India. The directors backed the Indian government’s decision to stop allowing Pakistani artists to work in the country. They stated that no Indian platform should engage with Pakistani talent until the situation improves. “Our country and people matter most,” they emphasized.
The directors’ statement aligns with actor Harshvardhan Rane’s recent comments. He said he would not be part of “Sanam Teri Kasam 2” if it included any Pakistani actors. This decision came after Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane criticized India’s airstrikes during “Operation Sindoor,” calling them “cowardly.”
Harshvardhan’s Reaction
Harshvardhan took to Instagram to share his thoughts. He wrote that after reading Mawra’s comments about his country, he decided to distance himself from any potential sequel if it included the same cast.
Mawra had tweeted her condemnation of India’s airstrikes, stating that innocent civilians lost their lives. She prayed for the protection of everyone and hoped for the triumph of good sense.
