Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan recently had an unexpected stop at Mumbai Airport. Instead of catching his next flight, he landed in police custody. An actress had accused him of harassment, leading to his detention.
Police officials confirmed the Malayalam filmmaker was taken into custody on Sunday. A lookout notice from Kerala Police was in effect. This notice was linked to the harassment complaint filed by the actress.
Sanal Kumar Shares His Side
Sanal Kumar didn’t stay silent about his experience. He posted details of his detention on Facebook. He shared that he arrived at Mumbai Airport but was then held by the police. “I was detained under a lookout notice issued by Kochi City Police,” he wrote. He added that he trusted the police and a “political party” in Kerala to treat him fairly. Interestingly, he also mentioned he wasn’t aware of the specific case against him.
No Food, No Water Claims
The filmmaker kept his followers updated through several Facebook posts. He brought up a complaint from 2022 that the actress had filed. Sanal Kumar questioned why he was being monitored when that old case hadn’t reached a verdict. He also made a serious claim: he wasn’t given any food or water after his arrest. “I am still sitting here,” he stated online. “No food, no water. A team from Kochi is coming to get me.”
The Complaint That Led to Detention
So, what exactly is the old complaint that brought about this drama? In January 2025, police spoke about a complaint lodged by an actress. It was directed at Malayalam filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan. The charges against him involved harassment on social media platforms.
