Samsung’s Long-Awaited Tri-Fold Phone Unveiled in First Images

Samsung is poised to enter the nascent tri-fold smartphone market, with the first images of its rumored “Galaxy Z Trifold” device surfacing online ahead of an anticipated official unveiling.

The initial glimpse of the multi-panel device comes from informant @UniverseIce, whose shared image suggests Samsung’s move into a segment previously explored by rivals. South Korean newspaper Dailian also published corroborating photos, captured at a Samsung Electronics exhibition during the K-Tech Showcase event.

The leaked visuals reveal a large, continuous screen designed to fold twice, transforming into a tablet-like display when fully unfolded. A centralized camera is visible at the top of the unfolded screen.

The device’s folding mechanism reportedly aligns with Samsung’s Flex G prototypes, though early images show pronounced bezels.

Samsung’s expected design employs a G-shaped structure with two inward-folding hinges. This contrasts with Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses an S-shaped design with one inward and one outward hinge.

Similar to Huawei’s strategy for its tri-fold device, Samsung’s new Galaxy model is likely to have limited initial availability. Markets such as South Korea, China, Singapore, and Taiwan are anticipated to be among the first to receive the device.

While specific pricing for Samsung’s model has not been disclosed, multi-fold smartphones typically carry a premium cost. Huawei’s Mate XT, launched in 2024, started at approximately $2,750, positioning it as an exclusive offering.

Rumors suggest the device will be named “Galaxy Z Trifold,” though “Galaxy G Fold” has also been cited in earlier reports.

The rear of the device is anticipated to feature three distinct panels. The leftmost panel is expected to house a triple rear camera module, reminiscent of current Galaxy Z Fold models, while the middle panel will contain the front screen and its accompanying camera.
