The event for the presentation of the next folding smartphones does not have a fixed date at the moment. However, if the manufacturer maintains the usual schedule of presentations, the event will take place next August and will provide us with at least two folding smartphone models.
Namely, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.
S-Pen with a place inside Samsung’s foldable smartphones
With Samsung’s foldable smartphones replacing its Galaxy Note lineup, we’re now seeing the first rumors about the next-gen bill for a significant change. Apparently, we’ll have a new and more practical place to store the S-Pen when we’re not using it.
This desire of the South Korean business conglomerate is not new. In fact, already in the current generation, with the Z Flip4, the company wanted to place the S-Pen in an easily accessible place for transport and storage. However, other priorities would put the S-Pen at the bottom of the table.
That is, Samsung wanted to put a high-end camera in this foldable, as well as its essence of a folding smartphone. That said, the placement of the S-Pen within the smartphone frame was not achieved in the 2022 generation.
Weight and thickness limitations forced on the Galaxy Z Flip4
In 2022, the S-Pen should already reside inside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4. However, weight and thickness limitations dictated that the pen would remain homeless inside the collapsible. Yet there is room for this needle inside one of the specific protective covers for this smartphone.
However, the protective sleeve with a place for the S-Pen is (more) an accessory that the consumer has to purchase separately in what is already a very expensive smartphone. That is, something that contributes nothing to the quality / price ratio of the smartphone.
Apple to join the foldable smartphone race in 2024
That’s why in 2023, according to the publication ElElecCiting sources close to the brand, the S-Pen will have space inside this high-end folding phone, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. Of course, the same will not happen with the more compact and affordable Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5.
Finally, the South Korean company expects Apple to enter the foldable segment in 2024. In the meantime, the Cupertino giant will be giving this technology and engineering solutions time to mature and, in this way, be able to meet its quality criteria.
