Samsung will crush the competition with a new 450 MP sensor

THE Samsung currently has one of the highest resolution image sensors in its ISOCELL HP1 with 200MP. However, according to a new patent filed by the South Korean giant, the upcoming image sensor ISOCELL will have up to 450 megapixels.

It is important to point out that at the moment we do not know the real performance and performance of the ISOCELL HP1 since there are no smartphones with this sensor on the market yet. However, very soon Motorola will reveal its Moto X30 Pro smartphone with this same 200 MP sensor. Note that Samsung will not be the first brand to introduce its own ISOCELL HP3.

Samsung has registered a patent with the designation “Hexa²Pixel”

#samsung registered a trademark called “Hexa2Pixel”, where Hexa is 6 and square (6) is 36, which is 36 in 1. If the output is 12 million pixels, then the original effective pixels are 432 MP. pic.twitter.com/eVGkgFJwx1

Now there is a new report of something even more ambitious being outlined by the South Korean giant. According to the publication Galaxy Club, Samsung has filed a new patent where it registers the name “Hexa²Pixel”. That is, everything points to the creation of a new sensor with up to 450 MP resolution.

The first 200 MP resolution sensor was the ISOCELL HP1. However, this imaging solution was improved by Samsung and now, in its third generation, it will be used first by Motorola with the ISOCELL HP3 with “Tetra²pixel RGB Bayer Pattern” typology.

The South Korean will work on a new solution that can add up to 36 pixels in one. This results in a 36:1 ratio to continue producing 12 MP to 12.5 MP images, as it currently offers with its ISOCELL sensors.

Maintaining, therefore, this same logic, to add up to 36 pixels and produce images of 12 to 12.5 MP, the sensor must have a resolution of up to 450 MP. If so, this value will “kill” all competition with this processing feat.

The new sensor could debut in the Galaxy S23 range, specifically in the S23 Ultra model

HP1 and HP3 have a resolution of 200 MP (12 MP with 16 to 1 binning) So Hexa²pixel means that the sensor could have a resolution of 450 MP? Really? 💀

Also according to the leaks, this new sensor will be in the early stages of development. However, it is pointed out as probable for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra model, the top of the next generation range.

In addition, the manufacturer will also have plans to produce a 600 MP sensor with a 1/0.57” optical format that will arrive in the coming years. Until then, we have the new exploits of Samsung in the field of image sensors for new mobile devices.
