Samsung wants European users to have faster updates

Samsung “provides” its users with frequent updates that are reflected both in the security of the devices and in the optimization of navigation.

But now it wants to go further and is implementing a new strategy so that European users have faster access to the new updates it launches for their terminals.

Regional fragmentation leads to delayed release of updates

Samsung is known for frequently releasing updates for its devices that not only improve the security of the terminals but also optimize the user’s browsing experience.

In fact, the South Korean giant has already managed to launch the latest Android 12 operating system for a large part of its extensive portfolio of terminals. However, with each new update, Samsung faces an issue called regional fragmentation, which makes updates slower and consumes too many company resources.

But let’s see what exactly regional fragmentation consists of. Each update is released in batches for select terminals and regions, before being released globally.

Samsung terminals have a code associated with the region where they are located.

Specifically in the case of Samsung, each device has an associated “CSC” code that identifies the region in which it is located. In this sense, Samsung has to test each update separately for each of the codes of the different regions.

The result of this process is that each region has its own update variant and some versions may be more advanced than others. And this is what is called regional fragmentation. But Samsung seems to be adopting a new strategy in Europe to eliminate or at least minimize this problem.

According to the Galaxy Club website, Samsung is unifying the “CSC” codes for its latest smartphones, which will reduce the number of update variants circulating. This strategy has already been applied to the Galaxy A52 model, which has fewer CSC codes, as well as the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3, which already have the unified EUX CSC code for the European continent.

Samsung models to be launched in 2022 already include the unified code for Europe

The Galaxy Club also advances that it has not found any localized firmware for any of the Samsung terminals scheduled for launch in 2022. That is, models such as the Galaxy S22, Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A23 should already arrive with the unified code defined for the Europe.

And how can users benefit from this new strategy? The answer is simple: they will have much faster access to new updates, since the company will only focus on one version for a significant group of countries.

We also want to believe that since all efforts will be focused on fewer versions of the updates, the updates will also reach users with fewer bugs and more stable.

And for now, Samsung’s new strategy seems to be paying off. Let’s take the example of the Galaxy S21 model that received the new Android 12 in record time.
