Samsung presented at the International Meeting for Information Displays (IMID) 2021 in South Korea a new prototype of a rather unusual folding smartphone, since it can fold in two separate places.
After several patents filed in 2019, Samsung has finally unveiled a prototype of a 3-part foldable smartphone. The Korean giant had already presented such a device in a video on the occasion of Display Week 2021, but it is the first time Samsung lifts the veil on a real device.
Unlike Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 which can only fold once, this new device can fold in two separate places of its 7.2 inch OLED display, a process that the company has dubbed “Flex In and Out”.
This new smartphone would correct one of the Galaxy Z Fold3’s biggest flaws
Although the Galaxy Z Fold3 offers a larger screen than most other smartphones for watching videos, these ultimately only show up on part of it. because of its almost square internal screen (22.5: 18 aspect ratio) which is not suitable for this use. This new folding smartphone could correct this defect thanks to its larger screen.
As shown in the video below, one section of the phone bends outward while the other bends inward, thus creating an “S-curve”. We also imagine that the smartphone will not use no front cameras, since the rear cameras can be used with the screen unfolded.
We are unlikely to see the device released under the name “Flex In and Out”. Several leaks had indicated the arrival of a foldable smartphone that folds in three by the end of 2021. The name of ” Galaxy Z Fold Tab Was mentioned, in reference to its folding screen and its size that can be compared to a tablet. However, it will take probably wait until at least next year to see such a smartphone hit the market. While waiting to learn more, Samsung should soon unveil its next Galaxy S21 FE, the launch of which has been postponed to November due to the global shortage of chips.
