Samsung’s about to shake things up with its new software. Typically, the company releases a new version of its operating system alongside its flagship S series phones. For example, it launched One UI 5 with the Galaxy S22 series in February 2022, One UI 6 with the Galaxy S23 series in February 2023, and One UI 6.1 with the Galaxy S24 series in January 2024.
But this time, things are different. According to SamMobile, Samsung will debut One UI 8, based on Android 16, with its upcoming foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7. This is a change from the usual pattern, where new software versions are released with the S series.
Google plans to release Android 16 in June or July 2025, which coincides with the expected release of the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7. Samsung is reportedly testing One UI 8, and it’s expected to be released soon.
Recently, official-looking renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 were leaked by OnLeaks and AndroidHeadline. The phone appears to be thinner, measuring around 4.5mm when unfolded. This would make it the thinnest foldable phone on the market. The Flip7, on the other hand, is expected to have a larger external screen and dual rear cameras.
Both phones will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which has a speed of 4.32 GHz.
New Features and Design
The Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7 are expected to have some exciting new features and design changes. The Fold7 will have a more compact design, while the Flip7 will have a larger external screen. Both phones will have improved cameras and faster performance.
