When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung is the brand that immediately springs to mind. The South Korean has managed to establish itself as a leader in this market niche and now is the time to look at future applications of this technology.
The next step seems to be the development of a screen that folds into two different points. And the first prototype with Samsung’s signature has already been presented to the public.
Samsung introduces first prototype of flexible screen with two folds
It was in the context of the International Display Expo, in South Korea, that Samsung presented its irreverent prototype. It is about the materialization of the different patents previously presented to the competent authorities.
As you can see in the video, the highlight of this screen is its two folding points. So far, we are used to seeing smartphones with a single hinge, but this prototype will double that point.
This concept is generically called “S-curve” because of the wavy appearance that the screen can take on. The user can take advantage of this completely flat panel or give it a completely different entity from the ordinary one.
What we see in the video released by Samsung Display is a 17.3-inch OLED screen in all its glory. However, when folded in three, it takes on an easy-to-carry, conventional smartphone-like appearance.
With this panel, the multitask on a mobile device it will take on new proportions. Samsung advises that the user can enjoy this screen vertically or horizontally, depending on the tasks they are performing.
It will be possible to divide the screen into several compartments to perform several tasks simultaneously. Not much different from what is already possible with the Z Fold, however, with this format, we will have even more screen available for our tasks.
For now, we don’t have much more details about this new foldable smartphone format. The presentation of this prototype is seen as a declaration of willingness to commercialize this concept, so more details will be released soon.
