Samsung says chip-making success rate is improving

Samsung Electronics foundry business it achieved the highest sales in its history in the first quarter, thanks to strong demand and improvements in manufacturing performance.

During a Q&A on Samsung’s April 28 earnings call, the company said that yields from its advanced casting processes are stabilizing.

“Samsung Foundry’s 5nm manufacturing process production rates have reached maturity levels. In the case of 4nm nodes, there was a slight delay in the initial performance boost»said the company.

As for the development of Samsung’s 3nm GAA Processthe company said it is undergoing verification of each stage of development, which will help shorten the period of performance boost.

“We are back on the expected performance improvement curve as we focus on early stabilization”Samsung noted.

Samsung claimed that the company “will consolidate its technological leadership with the world’s first 3nm GAA process mass production and will continue to win new customers”.

The company is on track to bring its first-generation GAA (3GAE) process into mass production later this year and further develop its second-generation GAA (3GAP) process on schedule.

Samsung said its Device Solutions (DS) division, which encompasses semiconductor and component units, generated record sales in the first quarter of 2022, while sales from its Device Experience (DX) division, made up of the phone business Samsung mobile phones and home appliances were the biggest since 2013.
